The destructive physical phenomenon where acids from acidic materials—such as cheap cardboard, wood pulp paper, or non-archival glues—chemically transfer into adjacent historical items. This causes irreversible yellowing, brittleness, and degradation of vintage photographs and documents stored alongside them.
