A descriptive file-naming convention that includes specific details about an image—such as the date, location, or subject (e.g., 1965-07_London_John-Smith.jpg)—rather than generic camera defaults. This creates an immediately recognizable, human-readable reference that survives even if metadata is stripped. It is however unsuitable for a vintage family photo archive, which is covered in depth in my Archive Structure post.
