The existing background light present in your workspace, such as overhead room bulbs or daylight coming through a window. When digitizing film or prints on a copy stand, ambient light is highly problematic; it can spill onto your media, causing unwanted surface reflections, washed-out contrast, and erratic color casts that ruin the accuracy of your digital capture. (Tip: Working in a dark or dimly lit room is the best way to eliminate it.)
