Off-site Storage

« Back to Glossary Index

The practice of keeping a complete copy of your digital archive in a physically separate, remote location rather than entirely on your local workspace drives. In camera digitization, this is typically achieved via automated cloud storage services or by manually storing a backup external drive at a family member’s home. This critical step ensures that even if a local disaster—such as a fire, flood, or hardware failure—destroys your physical workspace, your hours of digitized family history, master RAW scans, and metadata remain perfectly safe and retrievable.
