Film Emulsion: The delicate, light-sensitive chemical layer coated onto a plastic film base that records the photographic image. When camera scanning, recognizing the emulsion side is critical for both safety and sharpness. The emulsion side has a matte, slightly textured surface that should always face upward toward your macro lens. This allows your camera to photograph the microscopic details and film grain directly, preventing the lens from shooting through the shiny plastic base layer, which can introduce soft focus or chromatic aberrations.
