Acid-free folders

« Back to Glossary Index

Specialized archival storage folders used to safely organize, flatten, and protect original photographs, documents, and negatives before or after digitizing them on a copy stand. Unlike standard stationery folders—which contain acidic compounds that bleed into old media and cause yellowing, fading, and brittleness—acid-free materials are pH-neutral or buffered. This creates a chemically safe environment that halts long-term degradation.
