IPTC Metadata

« Back to Glossary Index

IPTC Metadata: A standardized format for embedding descriptive, text-based information directly inside a digital image file. While technical metadata (EXIF) tracks how the camera took the photo, IPTC metadata acts like a permanent digital sticky note. It allows you to inject vital contextual details—such as the photographer’s name, copyright terms, descriptive captions, and specific keywords—directly into the image’s structure. This ensures that no matter where the file is shared or stored online, its history and ownership remain permanently attached.
