Lantern slides

Lantern Slide: An antique positive photographic transparency printed on a glass plate, typically measuring 3.25 \times 4 inches (or 3.25 \times 3.25 inches in the UK). Popular from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century, these plates were projected onto walls using “magic lanterns” for education and entertainment. Digitizing them requires a high-quality backlight under a camera stand; because they often feature hand-colored details and are protected by a second layer of cover glass, careful lighting adjustments are needed to avoid internal reflections and capture the vibrant, hand-painted pigments accurately.
